Avant + Garde Dance Company is a community of people who want to develop new and surprising ideas in dance. Our mission is to inspire a lasting love and appreciation for dance through excellence and new artistically innovative choreography, aiding in the movement of its members forward into the future. We value creative movers, and intentional thinkers through the passion they exhibit in dance.
We are NOT a studio. We’re here to give passionate dancers out there a community of other equally passionate dancers and more performance opportunities that their more conventional studio life does not offer. We are also not a studio affiliated program. Meaning, we welcome all students in the McHenry County area, we just require you take two technical classes at whatever studio you call home.
We tend to focus on concert dance in the fall, and competition dance in the spring. This is so dance team dancers can participate in both our seasons, without disqualifying themselves from competition at their schools. We offer our dancers the opportunity to not only do group dances at competition, but also to compete with solos, duets, and small groups.
We also like to get out in the community, and volunteer at the local nursing home, and Feed My Starving Children. Some of our concert dance performances include the Inaside Youth Summit, Still Inspired(?), Dance Elements, Dance Chicago, Fourth Fridays at the Starline, and new this year “Oh, Yes She Did” art event. Competitions we’ve competed in the past are Spotlight, Leap, and Rainbow.
Our company is centered around dancers and their families. We strive to make this a family event as much as possible and we encourage parents to communicate with us regularly, while also encouraging dancers to grow into leadership roles. We annually host master classes, that encourage dancers in the company to bring their friends and learn from a choreographer outside the directors and their weekly teachers.
